Increased gas mileage = Trouble? S90-V90 1998

Group:
Last weekend I towed my trailer from north Jersey to south Georgia.
Every tank of gas showed an increased gas mileage! Same weather, same driver, same route north and south, 2000+ miles total.
In past years for some 10,00 miles of towing I got around 16.5 mpg. But last weekend the last few tanks were over 19 mpg! My old '91 240 with 5 speed stick never got more than 18 mpg while towing.

Clearly something is wrong! While towing I use premium, but use regular around town and the rest of the time. Neither I nor my wife can hear any pinging. I had always thought that the car bought with 67K miles did not get the typical mileage.
Maybe something was wrong for the previous 40K miles and it is better now. I don't know.

I have 6-8 thousand miles of towing planned thru July, and do NOT want to have a trouble on the road.

Any thoughts on what could cause the huge increase in mileage?
O2 sensor?
AMM?
Timing?
