Exhaust leak noise...where should I look???? 200 1990

Here is the second problem I'm having with my 1990 240 DL wagon. Pulled into the gas station, and asked my mechanic what that load clicking/banging noise is when I step on the gas. He replied, " exhaust leak, bring it in for a look."

The noise sounds like it is coming from underneath the rear of the engine.
I want to see if I can fix it but I'm not sure what to look at first.

Any thoughts?
