You got lucky and were able to turn the key to the IGN ON position, but you pushed your luck!

I suggest you use the remains of the extracted key and have a copy made...then using this copy in the lock, turn the lock cylinder to the IGN ON position (ONLY!) and after depressing the release pin visible in following pic...

...pull the lock cylinder assembly (with key inserted and in IGN ON position) out of the IGN switch.

Then, either take the lock (and a correct keyblank) to a locksmith and have a correct key made, which works smoothly and reliably, or replace the assembly altogether with a new lock cylinder, which will come with a new key. Recommendation: Install a Start Switch Upgrade or go through all of this fun again.

...this once again demonstrates the need for accurate and complete explanation of the situation and conditions leading up to the problem...it would have saved a lot of unnecessary back and forth...
