Oil pressure light 200

I've read some things about how long the Oil Light in the dash stays on upon starting - I'm pressuming it's indicative of Oil Pump activity or its respective sensor - After re-attaching my black wires by updating the Gray Junction Block behind the valve cover I've yet to see this Dash-board light come on?
What's the significance of this light coming on with every start?

Also, I have the M47 5-speed and in the dash is a shift indicator light; How do I activate this light? sensor? jumper? or is this a GL item?

Tim
