My view, as a longtime 164 owner (since 1971) is that the considerations
are two: Condition and transmission. I am not interested in a BW35 auto,
but the condition of the body and the mechanical workings are very important
too. If it is rusty in very many places, it is probably not worth messing with,
other than a parts car for a body in better shape. Likewise if the engine
or tranny is bad it is also not worthwhile. Having said that, the 75 is a special
year as it is the only year of any Volvo that had both D-jet fuel injection and
electronic ignition. It also had some other features that didn't show up in
earlier models. It was somewhat lower-powered than earlier models but could be
easily brought up with a little work on the ports and the compression ratio,
and maybe a better cam (D or VV71, for example).
