240 Windshield Replacement 200 1993

A couple of years ago (5 to 7) I had the windshield replaced. Instead of using rubber trim they put hard plastic trim around it. The hard trim has deteriorated. When I had the car repainted I requested they pull the windshield and put rubber trim in. The body shop indicated the rubber trim is not available.

My questions:
1. what's the probability the windshield breaks upon removal;
2. is the rubber trim still available and if so from who.
