740 turbo troubles X 2 now

A while back I posted about my 1991 740 turbo most likely needing a head gasket replacement. I took it to my mechanic and told him to check it out. Well today I got the bad news...the head has a hole burnt into it and the block is beyond recovery also. I haven't seen it yet, but trust this guy to know what he is doing.

Now the question:

I have the 89 turbo that I am having trouble getting the fuel pump to run and/or diagnose why, and I am thinking about having the engine pulled from it and put into the 91.

Are they compatable? Anything I need to know to tell, or ask, the mechanic before I give him the go ahead?

Any advice, as usual, is greatly appreciated;
randyB
