rpm's question for '88 5 speed 200 1988

one of my friends wanted me to ask on here.... he has an '88 244 with the straight 5 speed tranny, no overdrive, just 5 speed. he seems to be getting crappy mileage and noticed that he's running 3k rpm's at 60-65 mph. this doesnt sound right to me... my '86 with the 4-speed+overdrive runs 3k rpms at 85 mph. I drove the car and his clutch doesnt seem to be slipping at all... is this acting the way it should? thanks again
