non volvo question

I just ordered a set of replacement headers for my 68 firebird. the units that i bought are from hedman and use a cup and ball type collector flange rather than the traditional 3 bold flat flange. they claim this makes a better seal and requires no gasket. Has anyone ever heard of this before? if it works better I am all for it, but i was really hoping to just bolt them up with no mods to the rest of the system. it all looks very odd to me.
