'88 240 B230F Crankshaft Timing Gear shorn 200 1988

Having various overheating problems, intermittent no power, and most recently
no start after tuning up car. Opened up to change timing belt, everything
lined up good from when I did it last time, but after removing Crankshaft Timing Gear, I noticed that it was free to turn on the shaft, and found small
key that fits into crankshaft keyway was shorn and still in crankshaft.
Cleaned out crankshaft keyway, but now I need a new crank timing gear...anyone
know where I can get one? I can't find one in IPD's catalog.
Is that little key all that keeps the gear oriented to the crank? Or
the compression from the crank bolt that holds everything together?
Did a slipping Harmonic Balancer/Crank pulley cause this?
Should I replace the Harmonic Balancer also?
That's not much of a key on that gear.
Thanks
