Getting the tie rod to separate from the steering knuckle requires a special tie-rod-end removal tool (a miniature screw-type press), OR a tapered fork that you hammer under the ball end to pop it free. These are often called "pickle forks" and they look like a tuning fork. They'll sing like one too, if struck.
It takes a pretty good whack to get the tie rod end to pop free. It's a tapered fit which gets wedged in pretty tightly.
As for the similar issue with the ball joint at the bottom of the strut, you can do the same operation with the fork, or unbolt the entire thing from the strut bottom with two bolts. Then it'll pull apart.
What are you replacing? When you have all this apart, you'll still have a strut assembly that needs some special tools and extreme care to take apart. If you're trying to replace strut cartridges, you need to have a set of spring compressors, and a good impact wrench to take off the top strut nuts. Failure to secure the springs with compressors could easily send you to the hospital with severe injuries.
