Leak between cat and front pipe 900 1993

Hi,

The day started with a new sound from under the car. I turns out the joint between the front pipe and the cat is leaking.
My Volvo shop tells me I have to heat the old rusted bolts with an acetylene torch to be able to press them out.
Anybody done this without acetylene, only using hand/power tools?

I understand the bolts are press-in type, much like the wheel bolts. Would it be possible to replace them with regular bolts an nuts, preferrably stainless?

Thankful for any insights.
