LH Injector Seals + Icky Shift Lever 200 1988

1) Just got some new injector seals. What's the yellow nipple-looking thing with the hole in the center? Does this install over the tip of the injector?

2) My 240 has auto tranny and the shift lever, which I think is basically a piece of 3/8" steel rod, is covered with a long oval shaped plastic deal with fake chrome on it, between boot and knob. The fake chrome is almost all gone, with the lovely off-white plastic now exposed. If I could figure out how to get the darn thing off I'd maybe cover it with shrink-tubing to make it look not like a piece of plastic covering the real shift lever. Or something. Anyone know of a good fix for this?

BTW...thanks to all who offered advice on the 240 tailight/bulb sensor problem. New bulb failure relay, new bulbs, everything groovy.
