82 245 K-jet problem. 200

Ok Im about to sell this car for parts if something doesn't start going right. Today I pulled the in-tank pump to replace the filter sock and the piece of hose, everything seemed to be going fine I had my step dad (a very good licensed mechanic) helping me. We got everything on and put back together the same way it came off, started the car and it seemed to be running good(no better or worse just the same) I let it idle for the duration of the time it took me to put the floor back in(15 minutes) and then left his shop. Now it has really poor acceleration in 2nd through 4th gear. What the heck went wrong? Is the stupid pump gone? I put my ear to the access panel and it sounded like the pump was working fine, the only thing different is now the main pump is not as noisy as before, I contribute the lack of sound to the repairs so now the main pump is not straining. Somebody please help end my suffering I can't take this anymore.
