1994 940 shifter - repairing or getting parts for shifter 900

Over the past several months, my shifer (automatic) has gotten noticeably looser. I can still feel the detents between P, N, R and D - but there are no longer any detents between Drive and second gear (there is still the detent between 2nd and 1st). I managed to get the housing of the shifer apart and could not see anything broken/shifted/etc. (taking it apart was a real challange - the manual only describes up to 1993 - no info on the 1994.

Is the lack of detents between drive and 2nd in the shifter or is it in the linkage or in the trans itself?

Note - the 1994 shifter was completely redesigned (for the worse) and is completely different than 1990 to 1993 940's
