1991/940 GLE/16 Valves/B234F Engine 900 1991

I just bought a 91 /940 with 114.000 miles original a couple weeks ago and in the begining it was really difficult to start the car in the morning. After warm up and drive 5 minutes.... was fine. I changed the battery, FPR (fuel pressure regulator), fuel filter and still getting the same problem??? Sometimes I used some carburator cleaner straight on the tube(above the manifold) where the air goes... to start the car (a little trick). I took the car to a mechanic and he said everything seems fine.
However, yesterday the car it did not start at all...just a noise like clack, clack....(diferent then before).
The same mechanic checked and said: Your engine is gone..."Is Locked"???????
Just dump your car.
Is it believable?
