How to check TDC on B16B.... I think I realy messed it up this time..... 444-544 1961

During a no spark issue I am sure I totaly meesed up the timming....

I had the distributor out and stupid me cranked the engine over with it out.
Don't know why I did that, must have been all the gas fumes.

I can get it to start now but it sounds like a frate train...
no matter which way I turn the distributer I can't seem to get it to stop knocking or pinging.

Is it possible that I do not have the correct timming setting or TDC is off...
I read that the #1 piston should be just at the top of the up motion and this would be TDC...
Is there a easy way to check for TDC or do I have to remove valve covers and possibly the head to check for this...

I hope I didn't cause damage to the engine....

thanks in advance Good People...

ps....I Have an original Volvo service manual for B18 in very good shape, I would be willing to trade for a B16 service manual.

Vince
