Solid orange is for cruise control.
Goes to either of the two male spade connectors at upper left of speedometer.
(Viewing from the back of cluster)
These are actually one piece of metal, either of the two will do.

Striped yellow-orange or yellow-red goes on male spade at lower left corner of cluster.
(Again, viewing from back of cluster - so that is near car's center-line)

Striped red + white is for tach, and as you wrote, don't hook it up to anything else.

As for things not working - the speedo connector has a wire that powers other items in the cluster. Have a look into the wire end connector and clean it with electr contact cleaner. Also maybe bend the contact fingers just a bit to grab better where they grip the contacts on the circuit board.
