Sticky/Jumping timming 140-160 1971

Hello again,

Dizzy/timming question. I have converted to the Crane ignition. However when watching the timming advance with a timming light as engine RPM's increase it is not a smooth progression to full advance. The timming "hangs" or "sticks" at my idle setting of 11-12deg until a certain RPM then jumps all at once up to about 20-22 deg of advance. It seems to me this should be more of a smooth progression as opposed to a sudden jump......

Does this mean the advance plate or weights are sticking and just need to be cleaned and lubed?

Could it be a malfunction of the Crane XR700 box?

And yes my vacume line to the dizzy is disconnected and plugged.

Thanks again,
Wayne
