Learning to love my knocking engine. 1990-240

One does learn to live with the knocking. Every now and then something happens to refocus my attention on the subject.
The other day I changed my engine oil. I was running 10/30, and switched to 10/40 for the summer. After I did this, it appeared that the enging knock grew louder. In fact I know its louder because I can hear it plainly outside the car, where as before I couldnt hear it that well outside the car. Only question is there any way the oil change could contribute to this extra noise?
There is no deterioration of the performance of the car.
This knock is not like your normal piston slap, it starts knocking after engine warm up, not before.

While we're on the subject, Im aware that volvo later turned out b230s with oil squirters and longer piston skirts as an improvement. Im also aware that these engines are not direct fit into a 90-240- non turbo. The question is: has anyone done this conversion? What is it: switch the dist from the back of the engine to front. some wiring issues? Has anyone done this switch? If I ever decide to change, and I might(depends on the day of the week and the state of my hearing)I think I would love to have one of these improved engines, along with a AW 72L.
What do you think?

Peace(hopefully)

L.
