Overdrive electrical circuit question 700 1986

I have just replaced my ZF transmission with M46 plus overdrive. I do not have the special relay to select o/d nor do I have a circuit diagram.

I designed my own circuit using 2 foglamp relays, one of which latches, which work only when the button is pushed in 4th gear and it works well. My problem is that if I want to change from o/d back to 4th gear, I have to go back to neutral to drop out the grounding switch in the g/box.

How does the Volvo circuit work? Is there another switch somewhere in series with the 4th gear switch?

I was thinking of putting a switch in the clutch pedal so by depressing it the o/d will drop out and it will go back to 4th.
Volvo may have a better way and I would like to know how it works...anyone?

Thanks, Steve
