960 Transmission problem

I have a 1997 960 with 101K miles. When you want to go forward and place the gear in D, it won't move. However when you put it in Neutral it goes forward. When in Neutral it will go forward but will stay in one gear. Later you can change to D and it will shift normal.

I also need to press the override in order to shift.

I took it to the Volvo dealer in Miami and they said that I also have a leak in the transmission.

Any ideas what might be the problem? and more importantly how can I find the solution from a reliable source that is not interested in just replacing the entire transmission (assuming that it is not necessary).

Thanks
