940 hot start problem? 900 1991

Hi Board,
I have a 940 sedan 2.0 and it runs exellent from a cold start for as long as my journey lasts but when i stop and restart the lamda light comes on the dash and i have a very rough idle(bounces all over and sometimes cuts out).
If i then try to continue my journey there is no response from the accelorator pedal for a while and all of a sudden will kick in and power restored but with much chugging and spluttering. If the car is left to cool down(either a few hours or next day)it starts fine and no problem.

Any idea what this is?
ps
I had mechanic look at it and he says its either fuel pump on its way out or the airflow meter, his advice was to wait till either packed in altogether!

Regards

Simon
