Replaced fuel pump 2 years ago. Fuel charges when ignition switch is turned on. I cracked the line at the fuel manifold and I have pleanty of fuel.
Ckd for fault codes and get the 1,1,1 for no faults.
Checked step 2 test and got the 141 code for crank sensor operating correctly.
Moved throttle and got the 334 code that tests throttle switch idle position as ok
conducted test to cycle injection valves, idle control valve and auxiliary relay. All appear functional
Could not find the ground connection for ECU...on the intake manifold. Can you help on location?
Checked coil. Ground ok and 12 V (nom) present. Checked resistance of low voltage coil and it read about .7 ohms on the 250 ohm scale and 0 on the 2k scale. It should be about .5 ohms but this is a very small resistance and had to measure correctly so I'm not confident that it is .5 or 0....Checked the resistance between high voltage side and both low voltage terminals and got 4.8K ohms and book calls for 5 K so coils are probably not shorted.
I did notice when I removed the coil from the assembly that the compression connection seemed weak between the low voltage coil studs and the ignition stage body receptacle. I cleaned the connections and bent the receptacle connectors to make better contact before re- assembly. This looks like a pollible weak link.
I connected a spark spare spark plug to a spark plug wire and grounded it to the neg bty terminal w/ an alligator clip and jumper wire. No spark. I then connected a spark plug wire to the high voltage terminal of the coil and to the grounded spark plug, cranked the engine and no spark.
I have this car for about 13 years; it has 179,500 miles and I have normally been able to diagnose issues using the fault codes. The car was not used for about 9 months but started right up and I had been using it every day for about 3 weeks. It worked fine last Wed; but on Thursday A.M. it would not start, and has not started since.
I'm stumped on this one, but think it is the ignition power stage/coil assembly. Does this go bad often? Worth buying used? New cost about $167.
Or any other possibilities?
Thanks for your help in advance
