a problem in search of a solution 200 1993

Many posts indicate that these auto transmissions are generally bullet proof. So before I trade it out with a used junkyard transmission I want to make sure I have exhausted everything else first. My 1992 240 has about 165,999 miles.

The problem: won't shift out of first when cold, then when moderately warm, won't shift back to first automatically but will drop back to first if the auto trans selector is moved to "1" then back to "Drive". When fully warm, it works fine. I have been living with it this way for over a year but am getting a little tired of it.

Could it be a sticky kickdown cable? Or is there some solenoid or other part to consider replacing?

Thanks.
