Points system 120-130

V race,

It is difficult to know what to tell you. You state you are, "trying to rebuild" your distributor. But you also ask about wiring the "points system". Did you mean to say you are doing a tune-up?

Apparently the car is running, albeit poorly. Such being the case, you probably have the primary wiring correct. Check that the flyweights are free to move. Check that the plug wires are not crossed; the firing order is 1-3-4-2. Initial setting for the points is .017 inch. The final setting should be 60 degrees dwell. Ignition advance is set at 1500 RPM for about 20 degrees BTDC (vacuum line disconnected and plugged, if present). The Green Book actually says ignition advance should be 21-23 degrees. But, depending on the gasoline available in your market, you may need to run even less than 20 degrees advance. New plugs? New wires? Is the coil OK?

Was the car running before you replaced the points and condensor? If so, the condensor may be at fault; it wouldn't be the first time a condensor was defective right out of the box.
