Turbo head removal, w/ or wo/ intake manifold? 200 1984

I am removing the head on the B21FT in the 242. Bentley seems to say, disconnect the wires and cables to the intake, then remove head. Implying that the intake manifold is removed with the head. Is this the best way? I am inclined to remove the manifold from the head first, although I realize some of the bolts may be hard to get at, or are they impossible?
Haynes is less than helpful.
What has anyone found to be the easiest way?
