Thanks to all who helped me to get to know my car.
I was the one with the erratic idle after changing the inlet manifold gasket.
The reason for this was that at the time I stripped down the components to change the gasket I removed the throttle cable to throttle valve flap connecting rod by `pulling off' the rod from the cable end.
What I didn't realise was that the rod (which is adjustable) must have altered in its length, as I found the problem to be that the TB valve not fully closed when the cable was on its stop.
When I adjusted this, ensuring that the throttle cable and the TB flap was each on their respective stops the car idle is OK!
One of the first things I did when looking for the problem, was to check the flap was closed and during this check I was operating the flap via the cable, which when I release I heard a click, thinking it was the flap seating but it was the cable pully hitting its stop. On checking the flap it appeared to be seated but obviously it wasn't, hense the lack of vacuum.
Also I would have expected the TB position switch to have had an effect on the engine, (what are the simptoms of a faulty Tb position switch?.
I now have a `Emmissions fault ' light on in the cab which causes the engine, on initial start up, to faulter slightly, probably the computer making sense of the situation before it settles down and drives fine. (I will be getting the codes read next week)
So again thanks for the input and whats the saying when your struggling, go back to basics.
