Cooling System Revisited 200 1993

Hello All,

At 225K, last weekend I changed coolant and thermostat. Since the radiator was original, I changed that out too for a $124 Valeo unit. The thermostat in there was a Wahler 87 degree, which I replaced with the proper 92 degree unit. The TCB had been removed about a year ago. The waterpump seems to be operating properly but is about 75K old.

After my work, the temp gauge ran high - midway between 9:00 and redline, which as I remarked in another post, made me kind of uncomfortable, so I replaced the new 92 degree thermostat with the old 87 degree unit and the gauge read a line over 9:00.

Today, I replaced the radiator with a used but good unit and the thermostat back to the new 92 degree unit only to find the gauge read, as before, midway between 9:00 and red line.

Where do I head to from here. Should I replace the temp fakir? in the instrument panel. Should I replace the temp gauge sender? I just don't like that gauge position!

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Marty Wolfson
