poking holes in my rocker panel dut to rust - what now? 200

hello all,

i finally decided to remove the trim below my drivers side door to address the rust underneath and discovered it was a little worse than i thought.

basically, there's about a 6 x 4 section that is so rusted i can easily poke a hole in the metal.

i've researched the possibility of using por 15 etc. but i don't think this will suffice in this case.

is there anything i can do to fix this (i'm a definite rookie when it comes to body work) or should i just take it to a body shop and have them do it?

any suggestions?

gj
