Catalytic converter gaskets 200

I'm about to embark on my first cat replacement. The one question I have are about the gaskets that fit in between the flanges on the cat and the header pipe.

I ordered an OEM cat and received two gaskets - one is metallic and is smooth on one side while notched on the other; the other is flimsy and looks like cardboard.

I assume that the cardboard-like gasket is a type of seal and is sandwiched between the cat and header pipe. But what about the metal gasket, and which side does the notched side face?

From the header to the cat, in what order are the gaskets placed?
