Gentlemen:
My 1990 745T, 197k miles, problem with intermittent and worsening long cranking over the last 6 weeks and regardless of state of engine, ie, without apparent connection to whether the engine was warm or cold etc. seems to be ironing itself out!
The apparent solution: I put 3 bottles of injector cleaner into the half-full tank about 5-6 days ago. That was cheap cleaner at 1/5 the price of Techron and 1/10 the price of Justice Bros., but the local Fleet Farm had that Zecol product on sale: 3 bottles for $2.42. I dumped it all into 7-8 gallons of gas in the tank and washed that down the filler pipe with a gallon fresh lawnmower gas chaser (standard gas).
The engine started starting normally - ie almost immediately, as it used to - right away. I'm not exaggerating: it took right off upon the next start and seemed about 60-70% improved over 2 days thereafter. Since then the starts have gotten even better from that point. Now, about 5 or 6 days later, the car is starting normally every time.
Does this sound like there might have been residue right in the tank, at the sock? Could that have been from the old boat gas that I burned last summer. ??
Thank you all again for posting. What a great car.
