Hi All. My 1992 940T was broken into a while ago. They used a screw driver to turn the driver's lock. Fortunately no other damage was done except to damage the key slot. The central locking system binds but still locks OK with the key and I can lock the doors by pushing down the driver's door button from the back door. I talked to the Volvo dealer and was told that they can order a locking mechanism from the factory using the car's VIN that will be cut to my key so I don't have to change them all or use a different key just for the driver's door. I've checked the archives and also have worked on similarly complicated locks (a BMW), and have taken the door panel out. It seems fairly simple except for one thing - the inside mechanism is held in place with a couple of screws on the inside of the door - but I have a question about the circular ring on the outside of the door that the key slot mechanism is in the center of. Does it pop straight out or is there a trick to removing it? I have some trim removing tools and have trying prying on it with protective material around it but I am afraid if the tool slips it will make a beautiful scratch or a dent on the door panel. It seems very tight and I don't want to apply too much pressure and then find that it comes out some other way. Does it even have to come off the outside or is everything removed from the inside of the door? Thanks for any help.
