240-90 ac compressor change completed! Observations.

Got new seltec from fcp groton.
Drained it. Measured 4 0z mineral oil.
My old comp contained a little over 2 oz oil.
old compressor was throwing oil, so I allowed 3 0z oil for the new compressor.
Had system charged. At idle: 30psi low side, 150psi hi side(70 degree ambient temp at condenser,41 at the center vent). System is functioning well, at this point.

Question: Why dont new compressors from fcp come with, at least minimal, instructions. Open the box, no information. there was a tag on the back of the compressor, but it may as well have been written in chinese.

Finding information on the subject is little like interviewing a schizoid.
I read all weekend, trying to decipher all the bits and pieces of contradictory info available on the web. But I believe the plan that I decided upon was a good one. I hope.

This is in regards to the amount of oil that should be in the compressor. Here is what I decided:
since the system had been serviced, including a flush about 3 weeks prior to the compressor change, and then not ran much since, the oil lost had to have been minimal. Hence I decided to install just a little more than what I found in the old compressor to make up for any that had been lost. I did not change the reciever dryer. I was careful not leave the system open by sealing each connector as soon it was opened.

So, all is well at the moment. If I feel like Ive been beat up by 3 tough guys, Ill get over that. Now Ill just wait to see what happens when the temp hits 100 outside.

Any comments?

L.
