Air Filter Upgrade, Cold Air Worth It? 120-130

So I need to change my filters on the SU's. For the money I thought I would just lose the pancakes and use the 140 filter housing I have and throw a K&N on the end.

Question is if I am messing with this is it worth routing the filter (cutting) to get to the cooler air before the radiator.

I'll be doing a lot of highway driving soon so I thought if it makes the motor happier that I might go ahead and pipe the air in. However at freeway speeds I wonder just how much cooler the air will be before and after, but when its 100 degrees ambient maybe it would make a difference.

Otherwise clamping a conical K&N is about a five minute job.

Thoughts anyone? Anybody tried this?
