New Arrival 120-130

My advice when tackling this derusting project would be to remove the fender (wing) first. This is an incredibly easy job as I recently discovered, after getting tips and assurance from fellow brickboarders. Remove the headlight ring and inner bowl (4 screws around the perimeter) and the parking (I don’t know what you call this in Scotland) light and rubber housing.

On the fender, there is one bolt at the bottom rear. It is best to remove this first. Then there are 2 or 3 under the headlight holding the fender to the grille surround section, and finally 7 along the top, holding the fender to a longitudinal member of approximately rectangular cross section. Do these last, and then simply lift the fender off. You may have to do some gentle prying depending on what sealant was used when the fender was installed.

The longitudinal member is where you might get an unpleasant surprise, at least I did. There was some some significant rust requiring patching. The top of this member has a lip that extends into the fender well beyond the mating surface with the fender, forming a dandy little shelf for mud, water, road salt, etc, to collect and promote rusting.

A fine looking vehicle BTW.

Cheers,

Barry
