1997 965 not cooling the wife.sig - low a/c charge? S90-V90 1997

I suspect that low charge is the problem. The service records from the original dealer show nothing about a/c work, so after 10 years things get weak.

Also, when I can hear the compressor engaging and stopping, it sounds like it is short cycling. Is that another low charge symptom?

On my 240s I can add Freon R-12 with my gauge set and knowledge. This 965 is far from the same.

Is there a sight glass? If so, where is it?

Can I add R134 if I have the correct equipment?

I am concerned that the dealer will say "you need X and Y and Z, and that will be $998.00 plus tax". Urk urk. A non-Volvo a/c shop might be the same, but might also be throwing parts at a problem without true diagnosis. Their words, my dough.

Any tips and ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Bob
