Try Randy's method 200 1991

Follow Randy's suggestion below before you go the messier route.

My son got an '87 a year ago with a stuck cable and an unknown history. We unhooked it and managed to get a barely perceptable amount of movement with pliers (hard to push a stranded cable).

Held it in an upright position with a narrow wire "U" by hooking the free wire ends in the cowl vent slots.

Patient dripping in of ATF, then wait-test-drip-wait-test-drip over several hours finally did the trick. The movement was slight at first but it gradually became totally free.

Still working as a daily commute car in the NY-NJ area.

Worth a try, IMO.
