This past Sunday I started and drove my 544 for the first time! To briefly recap, I bought it last December. It was bought in CA then driven to VA where it sat (mostly inside) for 13 years. I had it delivered to my father's house. The gas had turned into a stinking goo. Condensation rotted a hole in the top of the tank. A tank was found and treated. The fuel pump was replaced. The fuel line was cleaned. The SU's were disassembled and cleaned. It started and sounds great. My father sold his last 544 (a twin to this one) when I was 10 (several decades ago) so this is the first one I have ever driven. My 240 now feels fat, heavy and slow. Due to other issues the drive was limited to up and down the street but it was a great first step. The radiator and heater core have been treated. The brakes are next. I would like to thank my father for all his help. He is retired and lives 2 1/2 hours from me. He has enjoyed it so much he went and recently found one for himself ('58 444). The goal is to have both at Carlisle and/or the VCOA east coast meet next year. Thanks for all the help over the last six months.
