940 no start 900

Just bought a non-running '93 944T. Won't start. PO claims timing belt the issue, based on the "Replaced 2001" sticker on the cover. I was skeptical on pick-up, removed cover, and found it to be intact. Rotating the belt turns the cogs that I can see. Where do I start looking for issues? Car never left PO sit roadside or exhibted any runnability issues. It started one day, acted funny, and he immediately was barely able to pull it back into his driveway, and it never started again. Fuel pump relay? Probably not the fuel filter. What kind of ignition do I have. It is mounted on the head by the firewall, but lacks the vulnerable Hall sensor connection that plagues some earlier engines.
