AW 43 tranny oil change 900

Can anybody please advise.
I am going to change the transmmision box oil on my 960 3ltr 96 model car (brick using the method of oil changing via the radiator cooling pipes (as in FAQ) but I have noticed a weep of oil around the tranny sump plate which I feel inclined to remedy with a new gasket.
The question is if I drop the oil out of the sump and measure the quantity removed, then replace this ammount of oil through the filler as I am changing the oil whilst it circulates around the cooling pipes will there be a detromental effect on the gearbox with there being no oil in the sump with the engine running?
I am not sure that the oil has ever been changed on the gearbox as the service records don't specify a change and the car has 130K on the clock.
The only problem I have with the tranny is that whilst idling in drive there is sometimes a faint "thud" (for want of a better word)that shows a dip in idling revs.
There are no fault codes showing.
Any advise is appreciated
Paul (England)
