voltage regulator wiring 1800 1969

I'm replacing the Bosch alternator in my 1800 with a Bosch rebuilt unit. Should be simple, but ...
I discovered that, despite having a Bosch alternator previously, my car also had an SEV/Motorola voltage regulator. I thought the two didn't get along? I looked through my stash of used parts, and found an Echlin VR-503, which is listed as the replacement VR for Bosch-equipped cars. So that's good.
But I have no idea how to wire all this stuff up. The regulator has three unmarked wires -- one brown, one green, one red. The harness at the alternator has three wires, too -- one thick brown one, a green wire with a spade terminal, and a brown and yellow wire. The old SEV VR is connected to one green wire, and two brown/yellow wires that share a terminal. Can anyone tell me what goes where?
Thanks in advance!
