stalls, won't restart, sometimes for days 900 1991

My 91 945 turbo just starts misfiring, then won't start again. I don't drive it often, but start it up every other day to keep the battery charged. (It's presently for sale.) Several times in the past month I was sitting in the driveway letting it run, at various RPMs, when it just starts sputtering and stalls. It will turn over, but won't start up again. Sometimes it won't start for several days, then all of a sudden it starts right up again. It happened again today. It turns over fine (and I have a charger on it while turning it over), and I can smell gas (and hear the fuel pump engage. It sounds like it's not firing at all. But in a day or two it may fire up again. Any suggestions on what to look are are appreciated. I've done most of the minor repairs on this and my other cars, and can follow instructions really well. Thanks for the help!
