Oh, no.

I just manually scraped with a putty knife not a grinder or sander but I better use a mask from now on!

My wife's grandfather worked in a garage door factory for decades and would stuff the asbestos in between the metal panels by hand. He rarely used gloves and never a mask. But he lived to age 93 although his last five-six years were spent coughing and coughing.
