My response:
Dear Miss Flourance,
Although I appreciate your prompt communication, if we are to continue to work together you must of course learn to address me properly. It reflects poorly on your upbringing, which I had assumed from your initial communication to be of a fine and upstanding nature, that you do not recognize I should be addressed as Dr. Brickmaster. Elvidore is a term of endearment which I reserve for those I have come to know personally, and our brief e-mail correspondence does not yet qualify you as such. Therefore if you wish to receive any further communication from me you will address me as Dr. Brickmaster.
If you find this difficult to master, or if you have trouble typing it, you may also address me as “Redblock”.
Now on to the matter at hand.
I must confess that I have serious reservations about traveling to Cote d'Ivoire; considering the fate which became your dear departed late father it hardly seems a place where a person of my not inconsiderable means could travel safely, much less conclude a transaction of the magnitude you are proposing. As to an alternate country of meeting, this would depend largely on how competently you can arrange things on your end. I am often traveling, and am willing and well able to alter my travel plans to accommodate your needs, perhaps you can provide some type of time line regarding the schedule of events which must occur for this matter to be brought to completion. Our clinic’s private jet has a range of several thousand miles; therefore a substantial detour to meet you is not out of the question, but from now we will need to do everything possible to establish our trust and faith in each other; in bolstering our relationship in this manner we will not only profit financially but may indeed find something Greater in this opportunity which has come before us.
We will also need to discuss the percentages involved in the split of the funds. Although you indicated our clinic was to receive twenty percent in your initial e-mail, you reduced it substantially to fifteen percent in your second mail. As the work in which I am involved involves the saving of often rotted, crumbling, leaking or otherwise deteriorated lives I hope you will understand that it is not only for myself that I strive, but for the greater good of many, and your unquestioning generosity in this matter will not go un-rewarded, for certainly God rewards those who strive for the greater Good.
It will be difficult to contact me directly by phone for the next few days as I am leaving in the morning on a medical mission of mercy to the Arctic Circle. As you may have heard the polar ice caps are melting at an unprecedented rate, and several of my colleagues have indicated that their facilities will soon become untenable without the life-giving essence provided by this unique and irreplaceable resource. We will be attempting a hazardous and untested landing in a remote section of polar ice-cap, and ask that you pray sincerely for us as we depart on our journey.
I will fully brief my personal secretary, Ms. Tappetshim, regarding our communication and my intent to fully support you in your endeavor before I depart. She handles my affairs in my absence (and sometimes in my presence too!) and should be considered fully competent to respond on my behalf until I return, God willing sometime next week.
My patients await me now, there are a few I must attend to before I depart. Please e-mail Ms. Tappetshim at this address with any questions or concerns until I return, and I will see that she does her best to accommodate you.
May God go with you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Elvidore Volan Brickmaster “Redblock”
