Throtle cable switch on fire wall. What is it for? 900 1992

The car is a 1992 960. The thortle cable switch assambly attached on the fire wall broke off and the car has the wrong idle speed, because the throtle cannot close completely. The swicht closes a circuit when the gas pedal is pushed all the way down. Do you know what the fuction of the switch is? I am thinking on screwing the assambly to the fire wall and live the switch discanected, open.
