Transmission Fluid Change in 86 740

I'm having problems with my 86 740's transmission. What it's doing is "clunking" when it shifts down from 2nd to 1st. It only happens if it has shifted past third. I've been told that changing the transmission fluid might solve the problem. The car has over 240K on it (the odometer is broken and I bought it used so I don't know how many miles are really on it) and I've read if I get a "power flush" done it might ruin the transmission. I've also read that a power flush is what it needs. I don't have the facilities to do it myself so any suggestions as to what I should do and where I might get it done? I live in Chapel Hill NC.
