do I need an R134a oil charge ? 200 1982

This concerns my '82 244DL converted to R134a ( May 2004) with the Volvo kit. I Used my AC last night for the first time this year & it did not cool. I added 1 & 1/2 cans approx. of R134a to the system this morning & it blows cold & seems OK.I assume that the oil pretty much was accumulated in the drier & should be adequate.I was also informed that I would need another 2 oz. of oil for every can of R134a .Is ths so? I put about 8 oz. of ester oil when I did the conversion.I am thinking of going to Strauss & picking up some oil charge tomorrow & installing it but is it really necessary ?
