I have tried EVERYTHING! Please Help, car will NOT fire 200 1989

Ok I am desperate - I don't know what else to try! We have an '89 240DL wagon

Timing - good. Timing BELT - good
NEW ignition control module
NEW ignition coil
NEW fuel filter
NEW fuses
Fuel pump - good but ONLY runs when jumped so we're thinking the fuel pump relay is out which of COURSE has to be ordered. IF the fuel pump relay is out, would it keep the coil from sending a spark? Is it possible to by-pass the relay with a toggle switch in case of an emergency? Or is there a fail-safe on the car that won't allow that?? My husband works 12+ hour days so I have been left to try and troubleshoot this. I am 9 months pregnant and really desperate to get this taken care of.
