I really need some advice on my clutch installation 444-544

I just put my engine back into my 445 and there is no way that the clutch linkage is going to work. And this is the second time! (definition of insanity) The problem seems to be that the clutch fork is positioned at an angle pointing rearward almost to the back of the bellhousing opening. I'm using a 544 B-18 bellhousing and stock linkage attachment point with new stock push rod, rubber bushing, metal cap and all the proper stuff and the problem is that even with the crank arm on the cross shaft pointing sraight back, the push rod at maximum adjusted length doesn't even touch the fork arm.

The first time this happened, I pulled the engine back out and took the clutch to several people who should know (IPD, Ott's Friction, Peter's Auto) They all assured me I had the right clutch and bearing and I must be nuts. I also checked the flywheel against the originals from the B-18 and the '75 B-20 that I am using and determined them to be the same thickness and same backspacing to the mounting surface.

I would appreciate any suggestions at this point.

Thanks,
Buz
